Getting Stronger at CrossFit Coordinate
We love celebrating wins at CrossFit Coordinate— and lately our members have been crushing it. Recently we’ve seen 40 personal records (PRs) set in the bench press, front squat, and deadlift.
Here’s the fun part: none of these lifts were the primary focus of any prior training cycle. In fact, these PRs occurred at the BEGINNING of the cycle!
So how does this happen? How do you hit lifetime bests in a lift you haven’t been specifically “peaking” for?
The answer is simple: we design our programming for year-round strength development, not just short-term results. Getting stronger at CrossFit Coordinate is easier when you trust the process.
Why It Works
At CrossFit Coordinate we don’t believe in “one-and-done” strength cycles. Instead, we combine:
- Foundational Strength Work – We rotate Squats, pulls, presses, and accessory movements in smart ways to build overall capacity in all lifts. If you only want to improve a particular lift and only prioritize coming to class when that lift is programmed, you’re missing out on foundational strength work that can still help.
- Functional Metcons – High-intensity workouts challenge multiple energy systems, build muscular endurance, and reinforce good movement patterns under fatigue. Those higher volume, but light overhead squats in the Metcon help you build the strength you need to improve other squats.
- Constant Variation with Purpose – You might not see the same lift every week, but you will see movements that support it: push-ups, lunges, pulls from the ground, presses, tempo work, etc. For example, push-ups in the metcon translate to a strong bench press, kettle bell swings build strong glutes and improve your ability to move weight.
- Progressive Overload Without Burnout – We sneak in strength gains over months, so you’re not overtraining one lift at the expense of others. Our cycles are designed to build on each other and typically include a push, pull, and squat.
This approach helps you improve all year long whether or not it’s a specific bench, squat, or deadlift cycle. Want to learn more about our approach to programming? Check out this blog post!
Proof in the PRs
Recently, members posted:
- New Bench Press PRs thanks to stronger triceps and shoulders from pressing variations and accessory work.
- Bigger Front Squats built from consistent leg strength work in cleans, thrusters, and tempo squats.
- Heavier Deadlifts supported by posterior chain development in kettlebell swings, hip bridges, and speed pulls.
And the best part? Many of these PRs happened unexpectedly — showing just how powerful consistent, well-rounded programming can be.
What This Means for You
If you’re training with us, you don’t need to wait for the “right” cycle to get stronger. Every day you walk into the gym, you’re building a foundation that will help you hit new PRs — even in lifts you haven’t practiced in months.
That’s the magic of CrossFit Coordinate: strength, skill, and fitness that compounds over time.
So next time you see a lift you haven’t tested in a while, get excited — your next PR might be just around the corner!
