False!
I hear that phrase a lot when speaking with prospective members, even those in their late 30s to early 40s. My response to them is always an emphatic ‘No, CrossFit is for everyone.’ I truly believe that, and not just because I own a CrossFit gym.
Many of our members, myself included, put our fitness goals and habits aside to pursue careers, to raise families, or to simply focus on other things. Then one day we realized that we weren’t as fit as we used to be, or maybe we had a health scare, or we were just generally tired of accepting that all of our aches and pains were just a typical part of getting older. We decided it was time to get back in shape – but the big question was, ‘How?’ Or maybe ‘How can I do that without hurting myself?’ With so many fitness options out there, you might wonder why we chose CrossFit. Let me explain.
Functional Fitness

CrossFit, at its core, is functional fitness – meaning that many of the movements done during workouts translate to movements performed in the course of everyday life. As we get older most of us have given up our childhood dreams of being professional athletes, we simply want to positively impact our health and quality of life and have the physical capacity to do the activities that we enjoy. Our workouts at CrossFit Coordinate support this philosophy so you can be confident that the skills you are focused on in the gym relate to what you do outside the gym.
Scaling and Modifications

One of the primary reasons CrossFit is accessible for all ages is the ability to customize, or in CrossFit terms – scale, all workouts to meet each individual’s fitness level whether they are just beginning or have been doing CrossFit for years. Our CrossFit Coordinate coaches are trained to modify class workouts to guarantee that every member has a workout that meets their individual needs while exercising in a group environment. You’ll see all ages and all fitness levels at any given class time in our CrossFit community.
Physical Benefits

As with any fitness program we always want to see progress, but with CrossFit many of the most significant physical benefits go beyond what we see in the mirror. These benefits are especially important as we age: improved strength and muscle mass, enhanced cardiovascular health, increased bone density, and improved flexibility and mobility; and those are just the tip of the iceberg. Having a ‘six-pack’ might be good visually but being able to lift that heavy box off the ground without injury is even better!
Mental Benefits
Finally, many of us tend to overlook the benefits that fitness not only has on our physical health but our mental health as well. The everyday stress of life can feel overwhelming but a structured exercise program like CrossFit can help counter that by stimulating the release of endorphins, commonly known as those ‘feel good hormones.’
I’ll conclude with what I think is one of the best benefits overall of CrossFit – regardless of age – and that is community. Whether you’re just returning to regular exercise after having a baby or you’re a grandparent that wants to stay active and fit for your grandchildren, CrossFit Coordinate can help you achieve your goals, all while making it safe, fun, and enjoyable.
